PART TWO:

1) “Although the advances in the past 30 years have been remarkable, much of daily life is not so different.” I totally disagree with this statement, every aspect of daily life has been transformed due to the massive amounts of technology. The way we communicate, the way we act, jobs, where we eat and how we eat has all been determined and effected by new technology. Cell phones, text messaging, emailing, George Foreman grills, all of that technology has changed the way each of us live our daily lives. The jobs that are available today are way different than jobs that were available thirty years ago.”

(http://degorel607.wordpress.com/page/2/) September 4th

This idea is still important because it is most defiantly still true. Life today is much more different than it was thirty years ago simply because the use of technology. It is interesting and frightening to see the changes in society after the addition of media. The decline of the newspaper and the loss of many jobs such as the locksmith are results of technology.

2) September 16th- ” The government is trained to scare us. The media shows us images of violence over and over again. We never hear about success in the War, constantly we are surronded by news of death. In the war, in our neighborhoods, in other countries we all hear about crime and devestation.”

This quote is important because I talked about how the media influences the governments power, and about how its through the use of technology that the government has the power to invoke fear into its citizens.

3) September 16th- “Fear. That’s what life in the United States, and anywhere else is all about. That’s what the Vietnam war was about, the fear that Communism was going to take over, and the belief that if Communism would take over the world if in spread. In return of the government invoking this fear we responded by going to war.”

I like the ideas here because I am using fear a lot. I think that with the increase of media and technology there is fear because there is a decline of newspapers and a decline of books. Many people think that this new technology is the “decline of civilization,” so I think that this is yet another example of fear and how fear really does control people.

4) September 18th- “If adults allow the use of violent video games and watch movies that might encourage violence, children of the next generations will soon become immune to violence and the negative affects it creates for society.”

Another effect of the new media is that of children and their being influenced by their violence. Children are moving from books and other games that are not violent to games that are promoting blood, killing and violence. I think it’s really important to look at what media has been offering to children and the ways it has been influencing their upbringing, changing their values and beliefs as young as ages five and six.

5) October 9th- ” I think that children being around adn with their peers and their families is a good enough source of socializing in which parents and peers introduce the formation of enduring attitudes. I also disagree with his statement further down on page 41 “far more than books or movies or music, games force you to make decisions.” Deciding wha tbuttons to press is not a way tolearn good decision making skills. In many ways making decisions in video games would be a bad way of learning to make decisions because you are taking chances and not learning the consequences apporiate for making a wrong decision.”

I like my ideas in this post because making decisions is a big part of life, and once we begin to rely on video games to teach us the decision making process, we are in trouble. Children should be influenced most by their peers and other people around them. They should not be learning certain life skills by pressing buttons on the screen.
