“Even today’s Luddites want to obtain speedier Internet access, put up more websites, promote more extensive listservs, publish more tracts and otherwise diffuse more information about the dangers of high technology.”
I think that this statement the author makes about Luddites totally contradicts what a Luddite is. If a Luddite is a person who is totally against the use of technology, then it really does not make sense that a Luddite would be making using of high speed technology to deliver messages about not using technology. Obviously by a Luddite using the internet and other aspects of the media, they could get their point across to more people in a short amount of time, however this would be contradicting to their beliefs against technology. I also think that this passage just proves how bitter the author is and how hostile he is towards newer technology. I think that this author does not really make sense, I understand that society has become dependent on technology, but before the internet boom, there was television and radio. In every generation there is going to be new technology that people will be against, but times change and instead of fighting something that has been beneficial to society, people should just accept it. Obviously after people said that watching too much television was harmful, it did not change society and make people not watch TV, so why try and prove that the internet and other means of media are negatively affecting society when there really has not been a major issue with society’s use of technology?

I disagree. The statement isn’t the author contradiction but rather an explanation of the Luddites hypocrisy. It’s like anarchy. If you say you are an anarchist you aren’t an anarchist. The only way for Luddites or Anarchist to thrive is to go against the beliefs of their “associations” and inevitably demoralizes their efforts.
